At the Nashville Health Care Council we are honored to have a diverse community of healthcare leaders of every level. As healthcare evolves and grows, so does our Council membership.  One way we support building and growing the healthcare talent pipeline is the Leadership Health Care (LHC) program. LHC fosters the next generation of healthcare leaders by creating educational and networking opportunities for members.  We hosted an Executive Briefing series on January 22nd featuring Beth Chase, founder and former CEO of c3/consulting, moderated by Josh Hopson, Vice President, Integrated Marketing Communications at TeamHealth.

Leadership Insights from Beth Chase

Beth Chase joined Josh Hopson for a compelling conversation, where she shared the principles that have guided her successful career. Through personal anecdotes and thoughtful reflections, Beth discussed how vulnerability, self-awareness, and a focus on culture have shaped her leadership approach and helped her build high-performing teams.

Beth’s leadership journey is rooted in the importance of culture. Reflecting on her early career, she explained, “In my first business, I don’t think I thought about the word culture,” she admitted. “But when I started c3/consulting, it became the number one thing I focused on." From her entrepreneurial journey with c3/consulting to its eventual growth into Middle Tennessee’s largest management consulting firm, Beth understood that culture is the backbone of organizational success. She further emphasized, “I delegated work throughout my career, but I never delegated the responsibility of paying attention to culture.”

Her commitment to maintaining a strong company culture was a key driver in building an organization that not only thrived but remained aligned with her values. She understood that no business could succeed long term without a strong culture.

Beth’s leadership philosophy also focuses on navigating ambiguity with empathy and confidence. She shared a powerful insight: “You won't have all the answers before making a decision, but great leaders navigate and lead through ambiguity" inspiring confidence in their teams. For Beth, great leadership is not about having all the answers upfront but about leading with trust, fostering an environment where teams feel empowered to thrive, even when faced with uncertainty. This approach allowed her to lead through some of the most transformative phases of her career, including starting her own business and managing its growth.

Another important aspect of Beth’s leadership is her commitment to continuous growth. “Success should never lead to complacency—there’s always an opportunity to grow and excel.” This mindset, she explained, has been essential in pushing her—and those around her—toward constant improvement. She also pointed out that success can sometimes make us more comfortable but emphasized that you should never get comfortable with what you're doing because there is always a need to keep getting better. For Beth, growth is an ongoing process that drives both personal and organizational success.

Beth also spoke about the power of mentorship and collaboration, emphasizing the importance of building networks that challenge and support you. Her journey highlights how successful leadership requires not only internal reflection but also external connections. By cultivating relationships with mentors and peers, leaders can learn from others while also offering support in return.

Beth’sreflections serve as a powerful reminder of the value of intentional leadership, empathy, and a clear focus on culture. She has shown that leadership isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about guiding others through change, fostering strong relationships, and always striving to grow and improve.
