Community Health Systems CFO Shares Insights with LHC Members

by Nashville Health Care Council | Jan 28, 2015

On Tuesday, 250 Leadership Health Care (LHC) members enjoyed the first executive briefing of 2015 featuring Larry Cash, president, financial services and chief financial officer of Community Health Systems (CHS).

Cash, who has been with CHS for nearly two decades, shared his career path from graduating from the University of Kentucky, to his work at Humana, where he met current CHS CEO Wayne Smith, to joining CHS and gaining his current position.

“To be successful, you have to have great working relationships and resources,” said Cash. “I have worked with many of the same people for the past decade or more, in one capacity or another. Also, never forget what is most important. For me, that is my supportive family.”

Cash discussed CHS’s position in the current environment of reform, touching on issues such as network development, physician recruitment, improving operational and clinical efficiencies and acquisition strategies.

“Safety and low readmission rates are a priority to Wayne Smith and our company as a whole, and we have excelled in this area,” said Cash.

Cash took questions from the audience, discussing the outlook for the upcoming U.S. Supreme Court case King v. Burwell, changing reimbursement models and a focus on outpatient services in the future.

“We are happy to provide our members with access to top health care professionals like Larry, and this was a great kick-off to our year of programming,” said Jenni Bradley, director, talent development, Nashville Health Care Council.

This executive briefing is part of ongoing programming for the Council’s Leadership Health Care initiative, offering members insights from national industry and policy leaders in an interactive setting. For more information about Leadership Health Care, visitwww.leadershiphealthcare.com.
