“Ultimately, reforms in the health care system must be about value-improving patient health outcomes and delivering them more efficiently,” said Porter. “Currently, health care delivery is not aligned with patient value. In order to accomplish this, health care organizations need to reorganize delivery around the patient’s medical condition, deliver care through multidisciplinary teams that take responsibility for the entire care cycle, and vigorously measure patient outcomes and the costs of providing care.”
Porter, a leading authority on strategy and the competitiveness of nations and regions, has devoted considerable attention to strategy for health care organizations with a focus on patient outcomes and aligning competition with patient value. He is working with leading providers and health care systems globally.
“It was a great privilege for our members to hear from Michael Porter, who is highly regarded for his revolutionary ideas on health care and business strategy,” said Council President Caroline Young. “The Council will continue to offer these unique opportunities to hear from nationally-respected speakers on issues impacting the Nashville health care industry.”
