Dr. Morgan Wills, president and CEO of Siloam Family Health Center welcomed nearly 40 members of Leadership Health Care (LHC) to the Center Wednesday for a tour of the clinic.
Siloam Family Health Center provides affordable, whole-person care to uninsured patients in Davidson County and the surrounding nine counties. The center treats the emotional and spiritual needs of patients as well as physical ones, including specialty care. Siloam also operates a refugee screening clinic that conducts initial health screenings and physicals to nearly 600 refugees each year. In 2012, the clinic conducted a total of 21,757 patient encounters.
Wills remarks included an overview of the clinic’s history and how it has met its core mission over the past 24 years. He spoke about the effects of the Affordable Care Act and emphasized that nearly 200,000 Middle Tennesseans will still need services from organizations like Siloam.
“We are in a big story that is unfolding and we don’t know precisely what the ending will be…Who knows what the next turn will be. We are at a crossroads for changing health care and for changing Nashville.”
Dr. Jim Henderson, Siloam’s medical director, also offered his experience as a treating physician, particularly as a part of the refugee screening clinic. The Center treats patients from 80 countries who speak 75 different languages with the help of volunteer medical professionals and interpreters.
After remarks and lunch, LHC members were led on a tour of the facility, including patient rooms, labs, a physical therapy space, chapel and administrative offices.
Joining the tour were Milton Johnson, president and CFO of HCA, who previously served on Siloam’s Board of Directors and Bill Carpenter, chairman and CEO of LifePoint Hospitals and current Chairman of the Nashville Health Care Council’s Board of Directors.
Industry tours are part of Leadership Health Care’s regular programming for members.
