“Leadership in times of uncertainty requires clarity of purpose.”

That was just one of many pieces of insight from Bill Carpenter’s speech to a sold-out crowd at Wednesday’s Leadership Health Care executive briefing. Carpenter, chairman and chief executive officer of LifePoint Hospitals and chairman of the Nashville Health Care Council board, conducted a candid discussion that covered challenges facing the health care industry today and how his company’s mission, vision, values and “High Five Guiding Principles” guide every management decision he makes.

LifePoint Hospitals, which is headquartered in Nashville, is a publicly-traded hospital management company that owns and operates 57 hospitals in 20 states. Founded in 1999 with a mission of “Making Communities Healthier,” the company employs roughly 29,000 people and has relationships with more than 3,200 physicians.

The program’s Q&A session touched on topics such as patient-centered medical homes, the health insurance exchange and consolidation activity as a result of reform.

“I have great hope for our industry. Leadership Health Care members – the professionals in this room – have the ability to accomplish things we can’t even imagine, if you can stay focused on your mission, vision and values,” said Carpenter.

The discussion with Bill Carpenter is part of ongoing LHC programming, offering members insight from C-level industry leaders in an interactive setting. For more information about Leadership Health Care, visit www.leadershiphealthcare.com.
