U.S. Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., M.D. (R-LA) met with Council member executives Monday to discuss health care policy and issues needing consideration on a federal level.
Boustany, a cardiovascular surgeon with more than 30 years of clinical experience prior to entering public service in 2004, focused on the status of health care policy in Washington, D.C., which he described as “complicated” and “changing rapidly.” Boustany underscored his belief that change starts with health care communities like Nashville, not policy makers.
Attendees were also able to provide an outlook on Nashville’s health care industry, which Boustany called “poised to do really big things” in health care. The congressman cited examples of Nashville’s strengths in solving problems and making an impact on the industry nationally, emphasizing the need to reform the delivery system in order to provide efficient, quality care.
Boustany represents Louisiana’s Third Congressional District, covering South Louisiana. He currently serves as the chairman of the Subcommittee on Human Resources and sits on the Ways and Means subcommittee on Trade.
