Nashville Health Care Council Fellows Releases 2019 Year in Review

As the end of the application period for the 2020 Fellows Class approaches, the Nashville Health Care Council Fellows initiative has published a 2019 Year in Review, sharing key insights from the initiative’s most recent discussions. The publication provides a snapshot of what proved to be top-of-mind for this year’s Fellows and faculty, collectively one of the nation’s most influential cohorts of health care leaders.

The highlights were gathered from hours of classroom collaboration aimed to shape the future of health care. This year, 28 Fellows had the exclusive opportunity to candidly discuss strategies to solve the most pressing issues of this increasingly complex industry.

Co-chaired by former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, M.D., and Larry Van Horn, health care management and economics professor at the Owen Graduate School of Management at Vanderbilt University, Council Fellows provides an opportunity for top health care leaders to engage in vulnerable dialogue, share unique perspectives and enhance the skills needed to carry the industry forward.

“The 2019 Year in Review extends the Council Fellows’ commitment to facilitating conversations about the challenges and the opportunities facing health care in this country,” Frist said. “We’re proud to share high-level takeaways from our most recent class, in hopes of inspiring important conversations relevant to our field during this time of transformation.”

The white paper includes unique perspectives by the 2019 Fellows class in response to faculty presentations, which include:

  • How big tech and AI are impacting the health care industry
  • Challenges of measuring quality for physicians
  • Organizations that are allowing physicians to think outside of the box
  • Evolving the business model of U.S. hospitals and medical centers

“As Council Fellows prepares to welcome its eighth class and broaden its network of alumni, it is evident that the collaboration that occurs when impassioned Fellows come together is impactful, not only within the classroom, but also across the nation,” said Hayley Hovious, president of the Nashville Heath Care Council. “Given this nationally unique platform, we recognize the responsibility that falls on us to continue to break down siloes at leadership levels and bring diverse sectors of health care together.”
