Leadership Health Care (LHC) members had the opportunity to tour Alive Hospice and hear from its President and CEO, Anna-Gene O’Neal, this week as part of LHC’s Industry Tour series. Alive Hospice’s mission is to provide loving care to people with life-threatening illnesses, support to their families and service to the community in a spirit of enriching lives.

During the Industry Tour, O’Neal highlighted the importance hospice and end-of-life care plays in one’s overall health care journey and the impact Alive Hospice’s services are having on the Middle Tennessee community. She highlighted the Medicare cost savings and improvement in quality of care that hospice is able to provide for each patient. LHC members also learned about the individualized nature of hospice care and the extent to which Alive Hospice and its staff goes to making each and every patient and their families feel like they are not alone in their journey.

Founded in 1975 by Dr. David Barton and the late Dr. John Flexner, Alive Hospice is the only not-for-profit, community-based hospice in Middle Tennessee. It entered the landscape only one year after the founding of the first hospice program in the United States, and remains committed to helping patients live in comfort until death occurs and families to grieve with support.

Alive Hospice provides a complete range of services, including medical care, nursing care, personal care, social services, spiritual care, volunteer services, medical equipment, pharmacy delivery services, and bereavement care. These services are available either in one’s own home or at one of Alive Hospice’s inpatient facilities.

Headquartered in Nashville, the Alive Hospice team is made up physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, hospice aids (CNTs), social workers, chaplains, and volunteers. Currently, the team serves more than 3,400 patients and their families and provides grief support services to more than 600 adults and children on an annual basis.
